Heitz Cellars

2016 Heitz Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

California, USA
In stock

The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from two vineyards in St. Helena: the Only One Vineyard and the Spring Valley Vineyard. While this wine can age for decades, it is intended to be an exceptional entry point into the classic Heitz style and hints at what can be experienced with their single vineyard wines. To craft a wine that can be enjoyed upon release, they farm these blocks to be harvested earlier in the year and age the wines in a very small percentage of new oak.

The Palate of the Napa Valley Cabernet has always been reference point for the freshness and elegance that pure Cabernet Sauvignon is capable of achieving in the new world. The 2016 is no different. This cuvee continues to be the entry point for classically produced Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. Bright and fresh red fruits are showing vibrantly in the 2016 and will continue to for years to come.

Heitz Cellar

Napa Valley

Family owned since its founding in 1961, Heitz Cellar’s legacy runs as deep as the roots throughout the Napa Valley; a winery legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. In the late 1950’s, pioneering vintner Joe Heitz ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard. Fifty-eight years of the Heitz family’s dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic winemaking, maintained the winery’s notoriety as a benchmark amongst its peers in California and Europe.

The 2016 Vintage in Napa Valley combined mild summer temperatures and a series of warm days at the end of the growing season which led to an early start and finish to crush. Heitz Cellar brought in the first of their fruit on August 18th and finished their Cabernet Sauvignon harvest October 11th. Although a very busy season, the phrase "short and sweet" applies nicely to this vintage as they were able to bring all their fruit into the winery in a timely fashion and enjoyed perfect ripeness across the varietal spectrum.
