2017 Amici Cabernet Franc Napa ValleyCalifornia, USA
2017 gave the opportunity to craft this quintessential Cabernet Franc from a few Napa Valley vineyards, creating a complex wine reminiscent of right-bank Bordeaux. Aromas of black olive, tapenade, oak spice and blackberry on the nose carry into a savory palate with cocoa, black cherry and hints of minerality. The long finish highlights the wine’s powered tannins with the promise of aging beautifully for the next several years.
Tasting Notes From Coravin's Resident "Wine Guy" William Rohlfing:
Deep garnet core, with a bright purple rim and slow-moving tears, this looks dense. The nose shows fresh ripe blackberry and raspberry fruits, and something a bit riper; red currants perhaps? It really jumps out of the glass! On the palate, lots of cocoa powder and fresh dug earth for minerals, vanilla from the new oak that is nicely integrated into the red licorice and blackberry fruits. Deceptively tannic, this wine builds with each sip into a classic—power without weight is a good term for the mouthfeel here. A beauty. Long and lingering, this wine is a pleasure now and will continue to improve for at least a decade more.
